Shots in Sepia

The picture above has always been one of my all-time favorites and it was an absolute miracle that it turned out so clear. While sitting in the hammock at the lake, still with my sony cyber-shot, I placed my camera on the ground facing the opposite direction and took a picture. I had no idea what would even be in focus or that there was even a pine cone in my view. I love it! :) And although it looks very "fall-ish" it was taken during Spring Break.

Caddo Lake with the same camera. The colored picture isn't near as pretty as this sepia beauty!
And here is a funny one to share with you my random moments. I was attempting to be art-sy when I took this photo. Not sure I accomplished much!

Do you prefer sepia or black-n-white?

I'm definitely a lover of the sepia, but there are some shots that are way better in BW.

Thanksgiving(s)

I'm going to pause telling my "journey with photography" to post a Thanksgiving picture from this year. We try to get a picture each year as a family. Other than Christmas, this is the only other time we actually get a real good picture all together.
We tried as best we could to "color-coordinate" our outfits. Mom had her scarf picked out first so we all pulled colors from it to decide what we would wear. Brandon didn't get the 'we are so totally taking a picture' memo, so he got stuck in the back. It turned out fine.

I took my stool outside to place my camera on and voila... self-timer :)

The stacked firewood made a nice "fall/christmas-y" backdrop!
(And yes, that is the same photo three different times! I couldn't decide which filter I liked it in best so I just included all three of them.)

Just for kicks - let's do a little flashback from previous Thanksgiving's...

Thanksgiving 2010 - okay, so we didn't do so hot with the family photo last year. The brother wasn't with us so he obviously didn't make the photo.

Thanksgiving 2009 - notice China made the photo this year as well!! She needs to work on looking at the camera though!
Thanksgiving 2008
I have to say my eye-brows have gotten MUCH thinner, and for that we are ALL so very thankful. Good gracious! The padre must have something against taking a photo with a hat off... every. year. a hat is on his head. Atleast his 2011 hat semi-matched our colors :)

Hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving!!
Blessings.

Sunset Shots

One of the things that my family loves to do is go camping. So for a girl who was just getting into photography this was the perfect place to be.

One day I sat on the boat dock and watched the sunset for the very first time in my twenty years of existence (might be off a little on the age there).

It was a difficult season in my life and I desperately wanted to be close to Jesus... to simply see Him. So I sat. And these were some of my favorite shots from that day, again, taken with my sony cybershot.

The sunset is an everyday occurence; We trust that it will rise each morning and set in the evening. If you think about it in depth it's not small or simple at all. There is so much power and beauty to behold... and it happens every single day.

In symphony with all created things

let's sing the song that we were made to sing;

Stand in awe.

Initial Shots

If you read my short introduction over on the side of my blog you will see how my interest into photography began. It only seems right to share some of my first shots that I captured with my little sony cybershot. This was back before I had a "real" camera and was just beginning my hobby.
Most of the photos that you will see in this post were taken on our back porch. The flowers are simply the ones my mother planted in her pots on the deck! The purple flowers taken from below are from a tree in our front yard. The white dogwood tree is from Lake O' The Pines when we went camping during this same year. The pink flowers are from my grandmother's yard and a tree in Mississippi that I just thought was pretty!

In the next few days i'll continue to post pictures of my journey as a photographer. I'll try as best I can to keep them in the order that they were taken. It'll be neat to look at how my view has changed or if it has changed at all!

Hope you enjoy!

Thank you for stopping by!!!

A Snapshot of Me

Some people get into photography because they've always enjoyed it or even went to school pursuing that dream. For me, it happened a little differently.

A simple prayer was a spring board for my interest in photography.

"Lord, I want to find beauty in the small things."

The God of all answered that prayer by planting a desire and watchful eye for His beautiful creation in this desperate child who simply wanted to slow down.

That's where this journey into photography started for me. With nature. And from there I have ventured out to take pictures of family and friends for special occasions.

I don't claim to be the best, I simply dare to believe (like Emily Freeman) that a true artist is one who decides to take on a task knowing that failure may be an option.

So I hope you enjoy the pictures that you will find on this blog. My challenge is also that you will slow down and find the beauty that is all around you.

In His Name,
Megan
